Anybody Out There?

Do we have anybody out there who is perfect for us? Our "meant to be"? That "someone" we have always been waiting for? Some romantics believe we do. Some realists believe we don't. Some people find that "someone". Others settle for "someone" else. And others are still waiting...

Unquestionably, there are countless of songs written for that lifelong-posed question. And even though I am not one of those songwriters who write about the topic of love, I too had the need to indulge myself, back in 2012. I was on my way to Greece, with my friends Jose and Giedre, after visiting them in Lithuania and then traveling via bus to Latvia, to attend a music festival where Damien Rice was performing. During my trip, I asked my hypothetical soulmate "Are you out there?", and on the airplane I felt inspired to write a song about it.

The song was created as a dialogue-duet song: first, the male is asking if his love is out there; then the female is asking if her love is out there; then, they are asking each other to share their stories, their aspirations, and their fears. And in the end, they sing together, as one, after finding each other.

Ever since that day, the song has been on the repertoire, but I could never perform it by myself, since it was written as a duet. Fast forward to 2019, when I decided to perform the song live at Tr!p Santa Monica with my friend Annalisa, in February, and then at Sofar Sounds in Tbilisi, Georgia with a talented local singer, in December.

The song, however, was not perfect. Some words and lines had some room for improvement, and in 2020, at that magical place called Monemvasia, I decided to rewrite them. And now, in December 2021, after releasing "Blurry Song", the time finally came to record the song, and release it...out there. It is still in the making, but it will be released soon.

Thank you for reading, and have a wonder-full new year.
